A petroleum tanker carrying 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, lost control and somersaulted in Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday at Irepo Junction along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway, involved a tanker with registration number KMC 65 ZC (Kano), loaded with PMS.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the report was received at exactly 3:51 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and the agency’s personnel swiftly responded to the emergency call.

“On arrival, we met a fallen HOWO trailer tanker with registration number KMC 65 ZC (Kano), carrying 60,000 litres of PMS. It lost control while in motion and somersaulted to the roadside with its content gushing out,” he said.

“We quickly covered the spillage with a chemical foam compound to neutralise the flammable liquid, which could easily ignite from any nearby flame.”

He added that the accident was caused by the truck driver’s lack of concentration. The Federal Fire Service also participated in the operation, while officers from the Ojongbodu Division of the Nigerian Police were present for security.
