Tribunal postpones hearing of Obi’s suit due to document discrepancies

The hearing of the petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party against the election of President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Court has been postponed.

The decision was made due to discrepancies in the documents presented as evidence of alleged malpractices during the February 25 presidential election.

Obi, his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed, LP National Chairman, Julius Abure and other party leaders were present to witness proceedings.

During Thursday’s proceedings, the court identified inconsistencies within the documents pertaining to the 23 Local Government Areas of Benue State.

Attempts to reconcile the differences proved unsuccessful. Furthermore, Chief Emeka Okpoko, SAN, the counsel representing Peter Obi and the Labour Party, faced rejection when attempting to use documents that were not officially filed for the proceedings due to their illegality.

Consequently, the court decided to step down the hearing of the petition.

They instructed the legal team to re-file the schedule of documents in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the pre-hearing report.

Following the court’s decision, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, leading a panel of five justices, temporarily adjourned the session while Peter Obi’s legal team worked on reconciling their documents
