A truck caught fire on Saturday at a mechanic workshop operated by Oyebamiji Transport Services in the Sanyo area, along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Mafuf Akinwande, confirmed the incident, stating that no casualties were recorded when the Leyland DAF truck with registration number GGE 37 YA (Lagos) was engulfed by flames.

He said, “On Saturday, 10th May 2025, our control room received a distress call at exactly 12:30 hrs. Our officers, led by ACFS Adekola, immediately proceeded to the scene.”

Upon arrival, firefighters found the truck ablaze and quickly began efforts to extinguish the fire. Akinwande said their swift response prevented the fire from spreading to other vehicles and nearby properties.

“Although the fire slightly damaged the fibre body of the truck, we were able to prevent it from reaching the engine compartment or affecting other trucks at the workshop,” he added.

The cause of the fire was traced to overheating of the fibre body during an oxyacetylene welding operation.
