Two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old female undergraduate.

One of the suspects, identified as Tom Samuel, was said to have lured the victim to a location on Cele Street, Akungba, on 21 November 2024, where she was reportedly drugged after consuming an alcoholic drink served to her. A second student was arrested as an alleged accomplice.

A medical report from the General Hospital, Iwaro-Oka, confirmed that the victim was assaulted, following tests conducted on 22 November 2024. A video obtained by reporters also showed concerned friends arriving at the scene to find the young woman unconscious beside Samuel.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, in a statement, confirmed the arrests and disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the transfer of the case to the Gender Section of the State CID for further investigation.

He explained that preliminary findings indicated the involvement of a female friend, identified as Queen Sodo, who allegedly supplied the drug-laced drink and invited her male accomplice. The victim was later rescued by a neighbour and rushed for urgent medical treatment.

According to the police, both suspects have made confessional statements, and exhibits have been recovered. The command assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted, urging parents to guide their children against harmful associations.
