Two arrested in Ondo for ₦25 million facebook fraud

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly defrauding a businessman of ₦25 million through a Facebook scam.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday. He said the suspects, Ojo Oluwafemi and Omowunmi Balogun, both from Ilobu, Osun State, were apprehended after months of investigation.

According to him, the case began on February 10, 2025, when one Prince Adebola Adoye petitioned the Command, accusing the duo of conspiring to obtain the sum under false pretence in 2024.

“Detectives of the Special Enquiry Unit launched intensive intelligence gathering and surveillance. Their efforts paid off, as Ojo Oluwafemi was arrested on July 29, 2025, at Ijebu-Ijesha, while Omowunmi Balogun was arrested the following day at Shoprite Roundabout, Akure. Both suspects are now in custody,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the arrest as a breakthrough and warned that the Command would not allow cybercrime to thrive.

“This operation sends a clear message that fraudsters and cybercriminals will have no hiding place. We will continue to rely on intelligence-led policing to dismantle such criminal networks,” he said.

Lawal also urged members of the public to be cautious in their online dealings and to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.

The Command commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for what it described as his strategic leadership in strengthening the fight against cyber-enabled crimes nationwide.
