Two men remanded over alleged assault in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –
An Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State has ordered the remand of two men, Joshua Akinitire, 24, and Taiwo Ogundeji, 25, over an alleged assault in Ore.
The defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on charges of conspiracy and assault. They were accused of attacking one Yahaya Ibrahim on August 18, 2025, at the Jerry Sawmill area of Ore, during which they allegedly beat him and inflicted machete cuts on his fingers.
Prosecutor Inspector Usifoh James told the court that the offence contravened Sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. The charges were read to the defendants, but they pleaded not guilty.
James asked the court for time to review the case file and prepare witnesses, while defence counsel, Mr. V. A. Akinfe, urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms. The prosecutor, however, objected, arguing that bail could be abused if granted.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Akinlolu ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until August 29, 2025, for further hearing.
