Two siblings drown in Ondo after heavy rainfall

Tragedy struck in Ore, the headquarters of the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, as two teenage siblings lost their lives after drowning in a river known as Omileye.

The incident, which has thrown the community into mourning, reportedly happened shortly after a downpour swept through the area.

According to a source familiar with the situation, the victims had gone to visit their father, a motorcycle mechanic, at his shop earlier in the day. The children, pupils of a private nursery and primary school in the area, were said to be heading home late at night when the tragedy occurred.

The source added that the children were attempting to cross the Omileye River when they were swept away by the surging current, the source added.

Although specific details of the drowning were still unclear as of press time, it was gathered that local swimmers and volunteers began combing until their bodies were discovered hours later.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Adeyinka Alayande, said the incident had not been reported at any police station in the area.
