Pandemonium broke out on Tuesday at Asoje, Balogun Agoro area of Osogbo, Osun State capital following clashes between two rival youth groups, leading to the death of two persons.

Westernpost gathered that the clashes started in the morning when some suspected hoodlums belonging to a group in Osogbo stormed the Balogun Agoro area, the base of another group, following a crisis that happened between them over the weekend.

Operatives of Amotekun were drafted to the area to restore peace and order.

According to residents, two persons suspected to be hoodlums were killed while another was seriously injured.

However, residents of the area accused operatives of Amotekun of causing the death of the two persons and took their corpses to the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo. The corpses were later evacuated by the police.

The Field Commandant of Amotekun corps in the state Amitolu Shittu, however said that his men did not shoot at the hoodlums but only made an arrest.

He said that after the arrest of one of the suspected hoodlums, they bombarded his house and vandalized it, including the cars parked in the premises.

Shittu said: “They have been fighting themselves since Saturday, they have been killing themselves. Police have been looking for some of them and we help them to make an arrest.

“Today (Tuesday), we arrested one of them around 10:15am around Balogun Agoro area and handed him over to the police. We did not shoot anybody. If we do that stray bullet can hit market women around the area.

“The car driven by the leader of the hoodlum named Emir was towed by police to their station.

“One Lekan led the hoodlums numbering about 30 to my house to vandalise my property. They used axes on my gates, shattered glasses and destroyed some vehicles.”
