UBA champions gender inclusion with 58% female representation in GMAP intake

As the world marks International Women’s Day 2025, United Bank for Africa (UBA) has reaffirmed its commitment to gender diversity and empowerment, with 58% of its latest Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP) intake being women.
At the graduation ceremony held at Landmark Event Centre, UBA’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, emphasized that the milestone reflects the bank’s dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace where talent thrives regardless of gender.
He noted that UBA is not just an advocate for inclusion but actively implements it, with a female-dominated board and executive management team driving the institution’s success.
“At UBA, we do not just celebrate women—we amplify them. An inclusive workforce fuels innovation, excellence, and long-term success.
“The fact that the majority of our new graduate trainees are women underscores our commitment to nurturing female talent and accelerating their progress in the corporate world,” Alawuba stated.
UBA’s Group Head of Human Resources, Modupe Akindele, reinforced the bank’s stance on employee development, stating that UBA remains committed to providing the necessary resources and opportunities for all staff members to thrive, regardless of gender.
“Our goal with GMAP is to show young professionals that their dreams are valid right here in Africa. We are not just providing jobs; we are creating pathways to leadership, innovation, and impact,” Akindele said.
