Medical students of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, staged a protest on Monday over the prolonged power outage and water scarcity on campus.
The students have been without electricity and water for over 100 days, since October 2024, stating that the situation has severely impacted their academic activities and overall well-being.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Give Us Light!”, “Medical School Is Hard Enough – Give Us Light!”, “+100 Days of Darkness: Save UCH; Save ABH Hall; Save Falade Hall,” and “Give Us Light; This Is Not How We Want to Live,” the protesters voiced their frustration and demanded immediate intervention from the hospital management and relevant authorities.
The protest coincided with a meeting between the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Chief Medical Director, Professor Jesse Otegbayo, where possible solutions to the crisis were being discussed.
The students, however, remained resolute, stating that the situation had become unbearable. They emphasized that medical school was already demanding without the added hardship of studying in darkness.
They called on the Federal Government and hospital authorities to address the crisis urgently, warning that failure to act would escalate their agitation.
