The University of Ilorin management has commended the leadership of JAMB Registrar, Emeritus Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, for his handling of the recent controversy over glitches in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Reacting to Prof. Oloyede’s televised public apology to affected candidates on Wednesday, UNILORIN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said only a conscientious and courageous leader with genuine compassion would openly take responsibility for an incident not caused by personal negligence.

This was stated in a press release signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, on Thursday.

Prof. Egbewole highlighted that Oloyede’s response shows a leader aware that “the buck stops on his desk,” adding that many Nigerian leaders might have offered excuses to avoid accountability in similar situations.

The Vice Chancellor expressed deep admiration for how Oloyede addressed the issue, noting, “Only a true leader would own up to mistakes and take responsibility for the infractions of others.”

He said he was not surprised by Oloyede’s candor, pointing out that as a product of the University of Ilorin and its former Vice Chancellor (2007-2012), Oloyede embodies strong leadership values.

Prof. Egbewole praised the JAMB Registrar’s forthrightness, stating that the University is proud of him as a distinguished alumnus and valued ambassador of its ideals of excellence, probity, and impactful service.

He encouraged other Nigerian leaders to emulate Oloyede’s honesty to help the nation regain its former glory.

The Vice Chancellor wished Prof. Oloyede continued success and productivity in his role at JAMB.
