UNIOSUN mourns five students killed in road accident

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has been thrown into mourning following the death of five students in a fatal road accident on Sunday near the Balogun area in Ikire, Osun State.
The accident occurred due to a head-on collision between a luxury bus traveling from Ibadan and an 18-passenger bus from Osogbo.
In a statement released on Monday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, confirmed that one student, Olagbemide Damilola, a 200-level Medicine and Surgery student, survived the crash and is currently receiving medical attention.
“Regrettably, we confirm the loss of the following students: Olagbemide Dotun, a 200-level Software Engineering student; Suleiman Farouq Adedayo, a 400-level Law student; Ogundare Pelumi, a 300-level Public Health student; Ogundare Elijah, a 100-level Mechanical Engineering student; and Olawuyi Mary, a 200-level Nursing student,” the statement read.
Adesoji further disclosed that information from the Nigerian Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicated that a total of 10 fatalities were recorded in the accident.
“This tragic loss has deeply shaken our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased,” he stated.
He added that the university will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary, while also offering moral and logistical support to the bereaved families, including assistance with funeral arrangements.
