The explosion caused by the planting of improvised explosive devices (IED) along the road path by suspected bandits in Woro community, of Kwara state has killed a man and injured another.

Western Post gathered that the incident, which happened on Monday morning led to the death of a commercial driver, and severe injury of a nursing mother.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, debunked earlier reports indicating scores of victims in the incident, reaffirming that the incident involved a driver of a commercial Toyota vehicle and his female passenger: a nursing mother with her young baby.

He disclosed that although the driver died on the spot after stepping on the IED, however, the woman sustained serious injuries while her baby remained unscathed.

According to eyewitnesses, the device was planted along the road leading into the community and detonated as the vehicle approached.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi, revealed that the attack happened shortly after 7am, describing it as a calculated act of retaliation by criminal elements.

The council boss further assured that security agencies have secured the area and restored calm, adding that surveillance has been heightened to forestall further attacks.

Abdullahi ended his remark by linking the incident to recent security operations targeted at logistics network of bandits in the area, particularly after the arrest of suspected collaborators and the disruption of motorcycle supply chains used by criminals.
