US Embassy hails D’Tigress’ historic AfroBasket victory

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has applauded the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic win at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Tournament.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the embassy celebrated the team’s achievement, describing it as a major milestone in African basketball history.

“History Made! Crown Retained! Nigeria’s @DtigressNG have done it again — CHAMPIONS of the #AfroBasketWomen tournament for the fifth consecutive time, making history as the first African nation to achieve this remarkable feat,” the embassy wrote.

Describing the win as a “powerful testament” to the team’s strength, resilience, and unshakable team spirit, the embassy congratulated the players, referring to them as the “Queens of the Court.”

D’Tigress defeated Mali in the final to secure their fifth straight AfroBasket title, further solidifying their dominance on the continental stage.
