The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun, Prof. Akeem Lasisi, has urged newly admitted students to uphold good character and academic excellence or risk losing their admission.
Lasisi made this statement on Tuesday during a two-day orientation program organized for students admitted for the 2024/2025 academic session in Ila-Orangun.
Represented by his deputy, Prof. Monsuru Adeleke, Lasisi emphasized that good character is the foundation of academic success. He noted that no matter how brilliant a student may be, if they lack good character, they cannot be awarded a certificate.
He urged the new students to embrace discipline and avoid all forms of social vices, warning that any student who fails to meet the required academic and moral standards may lose their admission.
Lasisi also reminded the students to count themselves lucky to have been admitted, stating that over 4,000 candidates applied to the university, but only 1,000 were accepted.
“Good character is very important. That is why, before a certificate can be awarded to any student, they must be found worthy both in character and learning. Be diligent and strive to be the best in your academics,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the orientation program was designed to help students understand various aspects of university life and what is expected of them.
“If, after this orientation, you go against the rules and regulations of the school, you will be penalized,” he warned.
In his presentation, an official from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Laaro Sulaimon, cautioned students against engaging in cybercrime and “yahoo-yahoo.”
Sulaimon advised them to be aware of the risks associated with cybercrime and to use their internet knowledge for self-improvement rather than self-destruction.
