Victor Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic cautions students against protest plans

The management of Victor Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, formerly known as The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has issued a stern warning to students planning a protest on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, urging them to abandon the move in the interest of peace and institutional stability.

In a statement signed by the Acting Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr. Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi, the school cautioned the Students’ Union and the entire student body against proceeding with any protest or attempting to block the institution’s gates.

“Available information to the management revealed that the planned closure of the gates will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8,” the statement noted.

The management described any planned disruption as a direct provocation and warned that such actions would not be tolerated.

“The management warns the students against any protest that will be inimical to the interest of the institution and the government. Any action against the interest of the institution or government will be considered an affront by the authorities,” it stated.

The school also appealed to parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in acts that could jeopardize the peace of the polytechnic.

To avert any disruption, the institution disclosed that it had put security measures in place and mobilized relevant agencies to work alongside the school’s internal security to ensure that law and order are maintained.

This development follows heightened tensions on campus over the recent renaming of the institution by the Oyo State Government—a move that has faced stiff opposition from students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
