VIDEO: Minister of Women Affairs denies advocating for women’s tax exemption

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has refuted the claims that she advocated for women not to pay tax in Nigeria.
The Ministry of Women Affairs issued a rejoinder on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, to clarify the allegations made by Arise TV in its “Morning Show”.
According to the rejoinder, the Arise TV report misrepresented the Minister’s speech at a program organized by the Ministry to address peace and security of women in Nigeria. The Minister did not canvass for women not to pay tax, but rather stated that some initiatives, such as mechanized farming and tricycle transport schemes called Pink Riders, have been introduced to empower women to support their husbands.
The rejoinder also warned Arise TV to desist from its “incessant and malicious reportage” and not to make comments that would “throw the country into confusion and chaos”. The Ministry of Women Affairs said it looks up to the media as dependable allies and veritable platforms to effectively drive the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari, especially in the area of restoring the hopes of Nigerian women and the vulnerable children.
