Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Enugu State, which claimed several lives and left others injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday along the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway when a tanker veered off course and burst into flames.

In a condolence message, Vice President Shettima described the tragedy as a wake-up call to address avoidable tanker accidents in Nigeria. He assured Nigerians that the federal government is taking urgent steps to prevent such occurrences.

“It was with a heart full of sadness that I received the news of the fuel tanker explosion. I am deeply saddened that another tanker accident has resulted in the loss of lives and left others injured in such a horrific manner,” he said.

Shettima revealed that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the frequent occurrence of tanker explosions, describing them as “entirely avoidable.”

He stated that the government would work closely with relevant agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and federal and state transportation ministries, to develop measures to prevent future tragedies.

“We will stop at nothing to put an end to tanker accidents on our roads,” Shettima reassured, adding that cooperation among road traffic authorities would be central to implementing effective solutions.

The Vice President extended his condolences to the government and people of Enugu State, particularly the families of those who lost loved ones and those currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

“I express my profound condolences to the families that lost their loved ones and those undergoing treatment. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I pray Almighty God grants eternal rest to the departed and quick recovery to the injured,” he said.
