WAFCON: Super Falcons seek revenge, quarter-final ticket against Zambia

By Olaolu Joseph –

Nigeria’s Super Falcons face a tough quarter-final clash this evening against Zambia in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Having topped their group in the preliminary stage—though not convincingly—the Nigerians will need to raise their performance against a determined Zambian side.

At stake is a place in the semi-finals, but the Falcons are also eyeing revenge, having lost 1-0 to Zambia in the third-place match at the 2022 edition of the tournament.

The Zambians edged the Falcons in that encounter, and the Nigerian team will be keen to set the record straight.

With a star-studded squad featuring the likes of captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide, Esther Okoronkwo, Ashleigh Plumptre, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, expectations are high.

The Falcons will need to bring their A-game to overcome the Zambian hurdle and secure a spot in the semi-finals.

The match kicks off at 5:00 p.m. (Nigerian time) at the Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
