WAFU B Championship: Flying Eagles begin campaign on shaky note

By Tosin Omojola
Nigeria kicked off their campaign in the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Togo on a disappointing note after the Flying Eagles lost 0-1 to their Burkinabe counterparts.
The tournament serves as the qualifiers for the AFCON U-20 Nations Cup, which will produce Africa’s flag bearers for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The Nigerian team succumbed to the Burkinabes in the Group B opening fixture played on Friday evening at the Municipal Stadium in Lome.
The defeat of the coach Aliyu Zubairu-tutored lads at the hands of the Burkinabes puts them in a precarious position regarding qualification for the AFCON U-20 Nations Cup, to be held next year.
The team must secure a win against Côte d’Ivoire in the next and final group match on Thursday to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
