President Bola Tinubu has declared that his administration is rewriting Nigeria’s infrastructure story by focusing on local talent and inclusive growth.
Speaking at the commissioning of the newly dualised Ushafa to War College/Army Checkpoint Road and related roads in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted that these projects are transforming communities and improving livelihoods.
“We have turned a path of frustration into a corridor of opportunity,” Tinubu said. “These roads will ease congestion, boost economic activity, improve access to education and healthcare, and uplift the quality of life for residents in Ushafa, Bwari, and neighboring areas.”
He praised the choice to award the contract to a Nigerian firm, emphasizing the importance of building national capacity.
“We are not just building roads. We are building capacity, creating jobs, and fostering pride in local expertise. With the right support, Nigerian contractors can deliver world-class infrastructure,” he added.
The newly commissioned 16.4 km dual carriageway is a key milestone in the administration’s vision of sustainable development rooted in local participation and ownership.
In his remarks, Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, hailed President Tinubu’s commitment to rural and peri-urban development, calling the pace of infrastructure commissioning “unprecedented.”
He further emphasized that engaging indigenous contractors is reshaping how infrastructure projects are delivered in Nigeria, and setting a new standard for the future.
