We fear Adeleke may move State capital to his hometown, says APC group

-This is cheap blackmail – Osun Govt

Osun Unity Forum, a group under the Osun State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed worries that Governor Ademola Adeleke might move the state capital to his hometown, Ede.

According to the group, this fear is not far-fetched, given the recent decision by the Governor to relocate the State’s international airport project from its original site in Ido-Osun to Ede.

Addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday, the group’s Convener, Abimbola Amusan stated that the APC in the State is concerned about the trend of events, in which Adeleke is concentrating development projects in his hometown.

Amusan said, “Regarding the concentration of projects and democratic benefits in Osun State, we all know that it is centered to one direction, recent news around the relocation of airport, I have not see anything more shameful and appalling as that in a long time, maybe there are other things they’ve done to even move the state capital to Ede.

“As members of the APC, we believe it is crucial to speak up now so that one day we won’t wake and hear that the capital of Osun State has been moved to Ede. It is also our responsibility to let the people of Osun know that those at the helms of affairs lack capacity to govern the state as required by law and should not be allowed to return to office”.

In a swift reaction, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi said the allegation is a mere blackmail, saying the 2026 re-election bid would be a walkover for Adeleke.

According to him, “The airport issues is a mere blackmail, the previous administration had concession the airstrip to the Air Force for aviation village and we have not moved that, so if the Air Force build aviation village there, it is a win-win for the state. We have infrastructure projects spread across the state and when it is time for re-election, it will be a walkover for the governor, I can assure you.”
