We will continue to build Nigeria’s positive image through sports – NOA

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has reaffirmed its commitment to using sports as a platform to enhance Nigeria’s positive image both at home and internationally.

The Agency described the Nigerian sports sector as a powerful tool for national unity and global rebranding.

While receiving a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said, “This assurance is a promise to the Nigerian State to continue building Nigeria’s positive image through sports.”

Mallam Issa-Onilu noted that sports, particularly football, provide a unique opportunity to unite Nigerians and foster a shared national identity. He added that NOA’s support for all national teams across various sports is part of the Agency’s broader mandate to strengthen patriotism and national cohesion.

Highlighting previous initiatives, the Director-General said NOA supported the Super Eagles during the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with outdoor flags and banners, a move that showcased Nigeria’s unity and enthusiasm. He assured that similar support would be extended to the Super Falcons at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), further promoting the country’s image.

In his response, the President of the NFF, Mr. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, commended NOA for its support during AFCON, noting that the Agency’s contributions enhanced fan engagement and showcased Nigeria positively on the continental stage. He expressed the Federation’s hope for continued collaboration ahead of WAFCON.
