Welfare of staff, students remains my top priority- LASU VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has assured continued welfare of staff and students of the university – a top priority for her administration – at the new year prayer session.
She gave this assurance in her New Year’s speech at the inter-faith service held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, main campus, Ojo, Lagos, on Monday, 6th January 2025.
She stated, “we may not always get what we want, but I can guarantee that whatever is available will be committed judiciously to the good of all staff and students.”

Addressing members of the University Community at the inter-faith prayer for the new year, the Vice-Chancellor gave thanks to the Almighty God who had spared our lives to witness the new year 2025 and thanked Him for all He did, for the institution, individuals and collectively.
Speaking further, she acknowledged with immense gratitude, the presence of the leaders of LASU religious communities who conducted the prayers, and indeed, everyone present at the inter-faith new year prayer.

She added that despite the economic challenges in the year 2024, we still had cause to thank and praise God for his faithfulness and blessings.
“God’s goodness and mercy have been our constant companion, providing for us, protecting us, and guiding us through the ups and downs of life. May our hearts remain filled with gratitude and praise as we look forward to a brighter year 2025, “Professor Olatunji-Bello exclaimed.
The professor of Physiology appreciated and thanked all members of staff for keeping faith with her administration, believing in and supporting her team always.
She acknowledged the sacrifices staff members made, and thanked them for entrenching peace in the university and for the hard work that everyone puts in to ensure the University is in limelight for good reasons at all times.
In her words, “I urge us to keep faith. Let us encourage ourselves. Let us strengthen ourselves. There is a better tomorrow to look forward to, and the future of our children is brighter when we work together towards a common goal. Let us unite in our pursuit of excellence, and let our hard work and dedication be shining example for them to follow. LASU is our collective project. Let us make it work”, the LASU Numero Uno concluded.


The Chaplain, University Chapel of Light, Professor Olakunle Ogabi accompanied by the Dean, Faculty of Science, Professor Moses Akanbi and Reverend (Dr) Benjamin Woobe led the christain prayer while the muslim prayer was led by the Chief Imam, LASU Muslim Community, Distinguished Professor Amidu Sanni accompanied also by immediate past dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Taiwo Salisu, Professor Qudus Amuni and Dr Mustapha Bello.
The prayer mostly centred on LASU, the staff, students, and the entire LASU community, for growth and accelerated development.
The inter-faith new year prayer session had in attendance members of the university management, deans of faculties, directors of centres, professors, departmental heads, deputy registrars, deputy bursars, members of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university at large, staff and students’ unions, and LASUIS students led by their principal.
The Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu gave the vote of thanks at the inter-faith prayer session.
