We’ll invest more in Police training, intelligence, modern equipment — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to increase investment in police training, intelligence gathering and modern law-enforcement infrastructure as part of efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a world-class institution.

The President said strengthening security institutions remains essential for Nigeria’s progress, stressing that national development depends on a safe and stable environment.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 2026 National Police Day Grand Parade held Tuesday in Abuja, Tinubu said his administration would continue reforms aimed at improving the operational capacity and welfare of police personnel.

He said the federal government would sustain investments in capacity development, modern policing technology, intelligence systems and improved working conditions for officers.

“We are determined to build a Police Force that is well-equipped, well-trained and well-motivated to confront the complex security challenges of our time,” he said.

Tinubu described security as the foundation of national progress, noting that Nigeria must continually empower those responsible for protecting lives and property.

“The uniform you wear is not a licence for arbitrariness; it is a covenant of service,” he said, while also calling for stronger cooperation between citizens and law-enforcement agencies to improve community policing.

In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the Force is aware of public expectations and is committed to improving discipline, accountability and professionalism.

He urged officers to avoid misconduct capable of damaging the image of the Force and promised that the leadership would support personnel who demonstrate integrity and dedication to duty.
