We’ll support whoever emerges as presidential candidate of ADC — Atiku

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has said he will support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the declaration during an interview with DW Hausa, emphasising his commitment to party unity and collective interest above personal ambition.

“We will support and endorse whoever emerges as the flag bearer,” he said, expressing confidence that all aspirants would rally behind the eventual candidate.

He noted that the number of contenders within the party was relatively small and manageable compared to previous contests.

The former vice president highlighted the growing influence of young people within the ADC, stating that the party has created opportunities for youth and women to participate actively in politics.

He also affirmed his willingness to support a younger presidential candidate if the party settles for one, saying age would not be a barrier.

Atiku dismissed concerns that internal challenges could weaken the party, insisting that the ADC continues to gain support across the country.

He expressed concern over Nigeria’s economic and security situation, linking rising insecurity, particularly in northern Nigeria, to youth unemployment and poor access to education, while also criticising the government’s handling of corruption.
