We’re not closing Bola Ige Int’l Market – Oyo Govt
Adejayan Gbenga –
The Oyo State Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Bola Ige International Business Complex, Gbagi, Ibadan, would be shut down on Monday.
The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, in a statement on Sunday, described the report as “false and mischievous,” urging traders and the public to disregard it.
He assured that the market remains a hub of commerce and that “normal activities will continue without hindrance.”
Adebisi, however, acknowledged complaints that some senior shop owners were exploiting petty traders by subletting spaces in front of their shops, and said steps were being taken to address the issue fairly.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olajide Okesade, also reaffirmed the government’s position, adding that adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure peace at the market.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, appealed to the public to rely only on official communication from the government and ignore unfounded speculations.
