We’re seeking global support to fight insecurity— Tinubu tells governors

President Bola Tinubu has said his administration is making “frantic efforts” to strengthen international partnerships to tackle Nigeria’s escalating security challenges through equipment, training, and strategic support.

Tinubu made the remarks on Sunday while receiving a delegation of state governors led by Vice President Kashim Shettima at his Lagos residence.

“Why I’m making frantic efforts to contact other nations… If we have to spend our goodwill and line of credit, we have those who are willing to support us with equipment and training,” he said.

The President emphasised that insecurity remains a major obstacle to development, progress, and prosperity, warning that it requires collective action.

“Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress and prosperity. That’s what insecurity is all about,” he said.

Tinubu disclosed that his recent discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and his engagements in the United Kingdom have focused on equipment, training, and operational support to strengthen Nigeria’s security capacity.

He reassured governors that the government is committed to building the networks necessary to fight insecurity across all states.

Commending the governors for their turnout at the meeting, Tinubu highlighted the importance of solidarity and cooperation: “I am very surprised at the short notice that this number is extremely impressive. It shows our sincerity, commitment and the value of friendship and togetherness.”
