By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
People’s Redemption Party (PRP) in Osun State said it party has not endorsed any political party for the 2022 governorship election in the state.
Chairman of the party in the state, Abiodun Afolabi who made this known in Osogbo on Friday also said that PRP has no candidate in the election.
He stated that Mr Busuyi Adedeji Ayowole is no longer the candidate of the party for the election.
Afolabi said: “I want to use this opportunity to tell all the supporters and members of our party that they should remain calm and supportive to the party. We want to tell everybody that the contestant (Ayowole) is no more in the race of the guber election in the state.
“I want to affirm to everybody that our party is nowhere in support of any political party at present. We are not in alliance with any political party at present. We are still staying as our political party. The party will inform the members of the next step in due course.
“The state has instituted a 5-man committee that is going to see to the allegation that is levied against the governorship candidate of the party that has been withdrawn from the race.”
Also, National Youth Leader of the party, Olajide Wolimo said the National Executive Council has withdrawn their support for Oyewole.
He said: “I am here to affirm the position of the National Executive Council of the party, which took place on July 6 where the NEC decided to withdraw its participation in Osun 2022 governorship election, simply because the flagbearer of our party suddenly turn to a nonchalant person. He was conducting himself in an illegal manner.
“After getting the ticket, he left the country for almost three months and came back to the country within a week to the election and by then almost everything was late. No single campaign was done anywhere; neither did he visit any local government of the state. No banner or poster was printed to showcase himself or the party. None of the leadership of the party could even have access to him.
“He was even going around and negotiating with other political parties, messing with the name of the party which does not align with the principle of our party.
“It is on that basis that we decided to withdraw our support for him as a party. We frown at what Mr Busuyi Adedeji is doing with the name of the party.
“We want to inform the whole world that the party has not given support to any other political party as far as Osun 2022 governorship election is concerned.
“That’s why I have been sent as the National Youth Leader of the party to come and reaffirm our position to our supporters. We have no candidate and we have not given support to any other political party.”
