Why I made deliberate, strategic crossover to ADC as a serving senator – Ireti Kingibe

Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a deliberate and strategic step in her political journey.
Speaking on December 18, 2025, at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, Kingibe said her decision was guided by a commitment to the people of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the future of Nigeria. She becomes the first serving and duly elected public office holder in the country to formally join the ADC, and currently the only serving Senator within the party.
“This move is deliberate, strategic, and driven by conviction,” she said, adding that her membership carries leadership responsibilities both within the party in the FCT and nationally.
Kingibe described the crossover as part of a broader effort to build a credible, people-centred alternative for governance focused on unity, competence, and purposeful leadership.
Reflecting on her political journey, Kingibe said her approach has always been guided by service, integrity, and results. “As a civil engineer and legislator, I believe deeply in technical governance, evidence-based policymaking, and sustainable development—especially in infrastructure, housing, urban planning, and addressing the unique needs of the Federal Capital Territory,” she noted.
Kingibe highlighted that her move strengthens the ADC in the FCT ahead of the February 2026 Area Council elections and positions the party as a serious force leading into the 2027 general elections. She affirmed that the decision will also enhance her capacity to advocate for the rights, welfare, and aspirations of FCT residents at the national level.
“I remain steadfast in my commitment to represent the FCT with courage, clarity, and competence. The journey continues with renewed energy, broader collaboration, and a clear focus on the future,” she concluded.
