Why Obasa should be suspended- Ex Lagos Lawmaker

A former Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olumuyiwa Jimoh, on Monday said former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa should be suspended from the House for laying claim to the speakership position despite his removal.

Jimoh made this comment while speaking as a guest on Channels TV’s Sunrise programme.

He stated that Obasa being a sixth term lawmaker knows the implication of laying claim to the position after being removed by members.

The former Deputy Majority Leader added ” Obasa claims that he is still the speaker which I think he knows that the implication is automatic suspension. I feel he should be suspended for that. It is an impersonation.

“How can he be the bona fide speaker of the house? It is going to lead to his suspension. he knows its implication. he has been in the house for almost two decades. If I were to be in the house, I am going to move a motion for his suspension.”

It would be recalled that on January 13, 2025, Obasa was removed as Lagos speaker by 32 members out of 40 over alleged high-handedness, lateness to plenary, and abuse of office.

He was replaced with his Deputy Speaker, Rt (Hon) Mojisola Meranda as Speaker.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, Obasa said he remained the speaker until the right thing has been done, faulting his removal.

He also claimed his removal as speaker took place in his absence when he was out of Nigeria.

However, Jimoh, said Obasa does not need to be in the House before he can be removed as speaker.
