Wike apologises to Obuah for not supporting his 2023 governorship ambition

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has asked for forgiveness from Felix Obuah, the former PDP chairman in Rivers, for not supporting his ambition to be governor in 2023.
Wike made the apology on Sunday at a function hosted by Obuah in Omoku, a community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers state.
The minister, who was the previous governor of Rivers, said he was sorry for not backing Obuah’s governorship aspiration then. Wike had endorsed Siminalayi Fubara instead, who won the election and became governor.
Wike and Fubara are no longer on good terms after they clashed over the control of the state’s politics.
Wike said Obuah, who is also known as Go Round, helped him to be governor when he was the PDP chairman, and he should have returned the favour.
“When a leader makes a wrong decision, nothing stops that leader from coming back to say, I am sorry for that decision I took,” Wike said.
“I started my relationship with Felix Obuah in 2004 when he was the chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government.
“That was his first tenure and that was my second tenure. He showed that he is a man who God has favoured and, therefore, he always gives to people in appreciation of God’s grace in his life.
“It may be painful how Obuah was treated by the then government but he is one of those people that will always follow my decision. That is why I say, today, I will do something that is uncommon.
“In 2023, if you look at those who I should normally support for governorship, Go Round should be one of them in the front.
“That is if we do things based on your contribution, based on your support, Go Round is the first two persons that deserve my support. So, I want to use this opportunity to say sorry to all of you, to Onelga for taking a decision that hurt you. I am sorry.
“You may not be right all the time, but I am a human being, I may make mistake. But it’s important for you to acknowledge your mistake and say sorry to the people. So, I ask you to ask Go Round to pardon me. I hope one day another chance may come but let nobody lose hope.
“If God has blessed you, no amount of conspiracy that can make you to lose trust in your God. That power that God has given us, we will use it at the right time.
“We will know who knows left and who knows right. Obuah as the leader of the party, helped me and I became the governor.
“It doesn’t matter about people insulting me. They said Wike is wicked. It is the same man that asked Go Round and others to step down.”
Before the 2023 governorship election in Rivers, Wike had persuaded aspirants on the PDP platform to step down for Fubara.
