Wike debunks heart attack rumour, says critics will receive ‘condolence letters’
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has fired back at those who spread rumours about his health, dismissing claims that he suffered a heart attack during a recent trip to London.
Speaking on Thursday at the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1 linking Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja, Wike mocked his detractors and expressed his contempt for the speculation.
“God will continue to help them to have heart attack. It is my prayer I will sign their condolences,” the former Rivers State Governor said.
Wike clarified that his trip abroad was simply for rest, marking his first personal vacation since taking up his ministerial appointment.
“Since I took this appointment as minister, I have never had time to travel out; so I said let me go on holidays,” he explained.
“This time round, I refused to travel with files. If the world would crumble, let it crumble because one has to be alive before you can satisfy everybody.”
He emphasized the toll of public service, stating that civil servants are easily replaced and must therefore prioritize their wellbeing.
Commenting on the growing trend of unverified information and free speech in Nigeria, Wike noted:
“This is a country where someone can go on social media and call the President a criminal, and nothing will happen. You are lucky to have a president that believes in the rule of law.”
