Wike not implicated in Rivers political crisis, says AGF

Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Lateef Fagbemi has stated that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is not implicated in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Speaking to reporters at the State House on Wednesday, Fagbemi addressed questions on why Wike had not faced any consequences for his alleged role in the crisis.

He clarified that the Supreme Court ruling on the matter did not indict the FCT minister.

“Where do you put the Minister of FCT (Wike) in this case? Was he the one who asked for the demolition of the House of Assembly? Was he the one who said the governor shouldn’t present the budget to the House of Assembly? I don’t see his hand here,” Fagbemi said.

His remarks come amid ongoing tensions in the state following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

President Bola Tinubu announced Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) as the Administrator of Rivers State during a live nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, citing the need to act in the interest of the people of Rivers State.

He emphasized that the directive does not impact the judicial arm of government, which will continue to function as outlined in the Constitution.

Barely 24 hours later, President Tinubu inaugurated Ibas on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
