Wike vows infrastructure support for relocation of Apo mechanics

By Kunle Sanni –

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to provide essential infrastructure in Wassa District to support the relocation of traders and dealers from the Apo Mechanics cluster.

Wike made the promise in Abuja on Friday while inaugurating a committee tasked with overseeing the relocation process to a permanent site in Wassa District.

He announced that he would personally chair the committee, which includes the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Directors of Development Control, Land, Urban and Regional Planning, Survey, and Resettlement and Compensation.

The minister noted that previous administrations had repeatedly failed to fulfill similar relocation promises made since 2011 to traders occupying part of the Outer Southern Expressway corridor.

He stressed that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu is determined to break the cycle of failed commitments and has already begun the necessary groundwork.

Wike reiterated the government’s seriousness, stating that the visit to Wassa scheduled for June 27 with leaders of the Apo Mechanics would mark a critical step in the process.

“It’s been promise on promise since 2011 without fulfilment, but Tinubu has promised, and the process has begun,” he said.

He assured that once relocated, the Wassa site would be adequately equipped with infrastructure to support the traders’ operations and enhance economic activity in the area.
