Women Affairs Minister, Reps clash over alleged non-payment of N1.5bn to contractors, others

The House of Representatives Committee on Women’s Affairs and Social Development and the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, have clashed over the non-payment of N1.5 billion to contractors for jobs delivered.

In a viral video on the social media platforms, there was a heated argument between the Committee chaired by Hon. Kafilat Ogbara (Kosofe Constituency) and the Minister at an interactive session over the issues. 

Due to the heated argument and charged situation, Ogbara was forced to adjourned the session till further notice. 

Meanwhile, the Committee was investigating the alleged diversion of the said sum meant for the payment of contractors after it received a petition from the contractors over non-payment for contracts they executed for the ministry.

The Minister was asked to respond to questions concerning funds that were meant for the office of the African First Ladies Peace Mission, and to account for award letter of contracts in the ministry, details of expected quantities, evidence of payment and project completion certificate amongst others.

She was also accused of using N45 million for children’s party at New Year, N20 million for the purchase of baby products for the annual welcoming of new year babies and N1.5 million for the purchase of fuel from Abuja to Anambra.
