World Autism Awareness Day: Oluremi Tinubu calls for inclusion, equal rights

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to promote inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunities for persons living with autism as the world marks World Autism Awareness Day 2026.

In her message to commemorate the day on Thursday, the First Lady affirmed the value and potential of people living with autism, stating: “Today, on World Autism Awareness Day 2026, I join all Nigerians and the global community in affirming the dignity, worth, and limitless potential of every person living with autism.”

Referring to the 2026 theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” she emphasised the importance of recognizing autistic persons as vital members of society.

According to her, “people living with autism are an important part of our shared humanity. Their lives, voices, and contributions enrich our communities and strengthen our collective future.”

Senator Tinubu also cautioned against misinformation and negative narratives about autism, calling for greater awareness and acceptance.

She said, “At a time when misinformation and harmful narratives about autism sometimes reemerge, we must remain steadfast in promoting understanding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all.”

The First Lady further called on Nigerians to work towards building a fair and inclusive society, adding, “Let us all continue to build a society that recognizes the inherent dignity, equal rights, and unconditional value of every individual.”
