World Teachers’ Day: Adeleke salutes Osun teachers, pledges better welfare

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has described teachers as critical pillars of national development, saying their work in shaping the minds and character of young people contributes to building a society founded on knowledge and wisdom.

Adeleke, in a message signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, said teaching was not merely a profession but a calling that requires devotion, discipline, patience and sacrifice.

The governor commended teachers, particularly those in Osun State, for their commitment to preparing children and young people to become responsible and productive citizens, describing them as “the ladder to a brighter future”.

“Teachers are builders. They spend every day shaping minds, directing paths, and imparting knowledge and values in our children and young people. We are all we are thanks to the work of teachers,” Adeleke said.

“While the world may choose today to celebrate teachers, for us in Osun State, we count every day that teachers leave their homes to prepare our children and young people to become responsible and productive citizens in the future as a moment to celebrate them,” he added.

Adeleke said his administration had, in the last three years, prioritised teachers’ welfare and improved their working environment through the rehabilitation of public school infrastructure. He added that his government had intervened when funds meant to pay primary school teachers were allegedly diverted.

“That speaks to our appreciation and respect for the work of teachers,” the governor said, stressing that his administration remained committed to supporting teachers and improving their working conditions.

He urged the public to recognise and appropriately reward teachers for their contributions to society, while reassuring teachers and Osun workers of his administration’s continued commitment to their welfare and improved working conditions.
