Yewa Obas call for capital projects in their area, endorse Abiodun for second term

Forty-five Obas in Yewaland in Ogun State, under the auspices of Trusted Royals, have formally endorsed governor Dapo Abiodun for second term in office.

Speaking at a ceremony held at his Palace, Ibepa of Joga Orile in Yewa North Local Government Area, Oba Adeyemi Adekeye, said the endorsement was to appreciate the governor for executing developmental projects in all parts of the State, including Yewaland.

Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, in his remarks, said the royal fathers were happy with the road projects going on in different parts of their domains, expressing the hope that more infrastructure would be brought to the area during his second term 

“Our governor, the whole Obas in Yewa and Aworiland have pass a vote of confidence on your government. We are happy with what you are doing in our State. You do not develop some parts to the detriment of others. We have seen the road projects and other amenities your government is providing for our people.

“Our governor, we are happy with the airport you are constructing. Please we want you to site a capital project that our people will be proud of in our land. There is large deposit of limestone in our land. We want you to use your connections to attract cement factories that would make use of this raw material,” Oba Akinyemi said.

Also speaking, Onigbeju of Igbeju, Oba Sunday Adelakun, reiterated the call for capital projects in the area. He however admonished indigenes of the area contesting for governorship post to shelve the idea as it is “not yet time for Yewaland to produce the governor.”

Other Obas who spoke at the occasion stressed the need for government to look into ways of making their roads accessible and the people at the grassroots have a fill of dividends of democracy.

Responding, Governor Abiodun thanked the traditional rulers for the confidence repose in him, even as he said that 10,000 hectares of land has been set aside for the cultivation of cotton at Iwoye, a project, which he said, would turn the entire Yewaland into cotton production hub, similar to what obtains in Togo

He said his administration has been discussing with the federal government on how to make the best use of Tongeji Island, saying the State is not buoyant enough to construct a bridge across the river, but would look at how to put an effective ferry service to serve the people of the Island.

Ten transformers, a grader and a roller, Governor Abiodun said, would be given to each local government area to commence grading of rural roads, just as he asked the Obas to collate all deplorable roads in the area, according to their priority, for urgent intervention. 

While appreciating the Obas for the endorsement, Abiodun expressed regret that no meaningful project was executed in Yewaland in the last 20 years, but pledged that the Lagos Light Rail project, would be extended to the area from Okokomaiko to Agbara.
