You will not walk alone, Sanwo-Olu assures Edo governor-elect
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday assured Edo State governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, of his support, saying he will not walk alone when he assumes office as Governor of Edo State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made this statement when he received Senator Okpebholo, who paid him a ‘Thank You Visit’ at Lagos House, Marina, following his victory in last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.
Sanwo-Olu assured Senator Okpebholo that Lagos State would support him with its developmental template and provide the necessary ideas to ensure his success as Governor of Edo State.
He said: “We are excited and happy that you have chosen Lagos as the starting point to seek blessings and to acknowledge the small yet significant support we provided.
“On behalf of the people and government of Lagos State, we congratulate you. As you have said, your victory is for all Edo people, and everyone should join hands with you to develop Edo State.
“I want to assure you that you are not the first leader that Lagos has supported with our developmental model. We will make all our agencies, which we believe can address the needs of Edo, available to you. We will share the strategies that have helped Lagos move forward.
“Lagos will stand with you. We will support you and provide everything you need to make the most of your time as Governor.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu also urged the people of Edo State to rally around Senator Okpebholo, asking them to support him in making Edo State better.
He said, “All your former opponents should come together and work with you to develop Edo State. I believe that is the right thing to say and do.
“The election is over now, and it is time for you to ensure that every Edo citizen who truly wants to serve comes forward to offer their support. Only through collective effort can Edo people benefit.
“You have the heart to transform the state. You have the heart to improve the lives of the people. You have the heart to make life meaningful for your people, and that is what we believe and hope you will do.”
Earlier, Senator Okpebholo said he and his team visited Lagos to thank Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support during the last governorship election.
The governor-elect, accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Phillip Shuaibu, and some APC chieftains, expressed his gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his support during the Edo governorship campaign. He also requested continued support once he assumes office.
He said: “I am here not only to thank you, but also to draw from your wealth of experience. I also want to ask that you continue to support me. We are brothers, and we are in the APC together.
“We will continue to seek your (Governor Sanwo-Olu’s) support and prayers. With this, we believe we will achieve great things for the people of Edo.
“My message to those outside is that there must always be a winner. I am extending my hand of fellowship to everyone. Whatever ideas they have, they should come forward and help us use those ideas to develop Edo State.
“We are going to transform Edo into an enviable state. Edo is about to experience a new era of transformation. Come November 12, we will take over from where Obaseki left off, and I wish him well for the remaining days of his tenure.”
