The Akure Youths Coalition has distanced the city’s young people from those involved in the Arakale incident that resulted in the death of a police officer.

WESTERN POST had earlier reported that an inspector attached to the Ondo State Police Command was stabbed to death in the Arakale area of Akure, the state capital.

However, the group’s president, Comrade Tuyi Adekanbi, issued a statement insisting that the attackers were a small group of lawless individuals who do not represent Akure youths.

“Let it be unequivocally stated: The perpetrators of this heinous act are renegades and social misfits who neither reflect, represent, nor embody the character of Àkúré youths,” the statement read.

The coalition condemned attempts to link the wider youth population to the incident, accusing some commentators of trying to malign an entire generation.

It stressed that Akure youths remain committed to peace, progress, and community stability, dismissing contrary narratives as malicious and misleading.

The group assured residents that calm has returned to the affected areas and pledged continued cooperation with security agencies to prevent a recurrence.

It also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased officer and the Nigeria Police Force, calling for a thorough investigation to bring all culprits to justice.
