The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Kwara State Chapter, has empowered its members with cash grants and sewing machines as part of its 2024 Annual Youth Convention held in Ilorin.

The event, themed Anagkazo 3.0: “I Am That I Am”, provided financial support of ₦30,000 each to 32 members across the state’s 16 local government areas and awarded five sewing machines to representatives from the five CAN blocks.

Speaking at the convention, YOWICAN Chairman Bro. Stephen Awoyale encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace entrepreneurship and maintain their faith in God’s timing. He emphasized that the empowerment initiative aimed to reduce unemployment and foster a better society by equipping youths with essential resources to start or grow their businesses.

“Our goal is simple but powerful: to empower youths, reduce unemployment, and create a better society. We believe that by doing this, we are shaping the future of Nigeria,” Awoyale stated.

He further outlined YOWICAN’s vision for the future, including plans to establish a YOWICAN House, improve transportation for youth programs, and provide digital empowerment through ICT training and agricultural ventures.

Awoyale called on philanthropists, the government, and organizations to support these initiatives to enhance youth development.

The convention featured keynote speeches, including one by Special Apostle Pastor Ademola Popoola, Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State, who discussed the role and structure of CAN in fostering unity among Christians.

Popoola emphasized that CAN acts as a watchdog for government policies, ensuring they protect the rights and welfare of Christians.

Evang. Dr. Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the former governor of Kwara State, delivered a sermon on the essence of faith, urging participants to trust in God’s timing and promises, even in the face of uncertainty. Drawing from Proverbs 3:5-6, she highlighted the importance of obedience, perseverance, and humility in walking with God.

Pastor (Dr.) Olatunde Oladokun, Chairman of SEAP Holdings Company Ltd, also inspired attendees to pursue entrepreneurial goals rooted in faith and purpose. He encouraged youths to set big goals, create vision boards, and trust in God’s guidance and timing.

In her remarks, Dr. Mrs. Mary Arinde, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, representing the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, urged the youths to apply the lessons learned from the convention and remain steadfast in their faith and adherence to the word of God.

Rev. Segun Abejide, Senior Minister of Kings Vine Assembly, further expounded on the theme of the convention, drawing from biblical passages such as Exodus 3:7-8 and 23:14.

He encouraged Christians to reflect on the mysteries of God’s power and supremacy, assuring them that when God intervenes, adversaries fall, and deliverance follows.

The event concluded with praise, prayers, and impartation sessions, as the youth were reminded of their role in shaping Nigeria’s future through faith, entrepreneurship, and unity.
