Zone 2 Police raid adulterated alcohol production factory, shut illegal facility

The Zone 2 Police Command Onikan, Lagos, has announced the closure of an illegal facility and capture of a couple involved in the production and distribution of assorted adulterated alcoholic beverages.
This was contained in a statement by the command on Tuesday, signed by Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ayuba Umma
On April 4, a crackdown led by CSP Ngozi Braide and her team of Detectives from the Zone 2 Raider Section took place at a residence in Muibi Olawumi Close, Off Ayetoto/Itẹle Road, Ado-Odo/Ota LGA, Ogun State.
Acting on intelligence, officers uncovered an illicit operation producing counterfeit wines, liquor, champagne, and other alcoholic drinks.

The raid resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of incriminating evidence, including unlabeled and branded bottles of suspected adulterated alcoholic beverages, various containers filled with suspected ingredients, and equipment such as pumping machines, funnels, and sealing machines.
Also, brand labels, packaging materials, a funnel with a white handkerchief (used as a filter), corkscrew, and other production and branding items were discovered.
During the raid, one Margret Austine was apprehended at the scene, and confessed to a six-year involvement in the illegal operation, alongside her husband, Austine Idemudia, also called “Baba Joshua”.

Margret further revealed that their adulterated finished products are sold to buyers across Lagos and Ogun States.
According to the statement, the Command assured that it was currently investigating the case and will provide updates to the public as new information arises.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi in his reaction to the discovery, advised the public to exercise caution when buying food and drinks due to the potential health risks posed by adulterated products.
The Police Command further reassured its dedication to ensuring the safety and welfare of all residents in Lagos and Ogun States.
