The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has shortlisted 1,800 applicants for teaching appointments across secondary schools in the state.

In a statement released on Sunday in Ilorin, TESCOM said the successful candidates emerged after a rigorous screening exercise that spanned three months. The process included online applications, computer-based tests, and oral interviews.

According to the Commission, the shortlisted candidates comprise 790 applicants (44%) cleared for STEM subjects, 581 for core subjects, 370 for specialized subjects, and 59 for technical subjects. The distribution aligns with a needs assessment conducted across the 16 local government areas of the state.

Applicants who were invited for interviews are advised to check their status on the TESCOM portal. Those who made the list will be required to undergo a mandatory drug test to ensure their fitness to teach and interact with children.

The drug tests, which will be conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), will be coordinated by Hon. Mukail Olamilekan Aileru, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control. The NDLEA will forward test results directly to the Commission to prevent forgery or tampering.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved full payment for the drug tests for all 1,800 candidates. The tests will be conducted from Wednesday, April 9, to Saturday, April 12, 2025. Candidates from Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi will be tested on Wednesday; Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin on Thursday; Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, and Moro on Friday; and Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Ilorin West on Saturday.

Shortlisted candidates are also expected to bring along medical certificates from any state government hospital and original copies of their credentials for documentation. They will be required to submit photocopies of the documents and handwritten letters of acceptance of the job offer. Other terms of service will be explained during the documentation process, which can be initiated alongside the drug test at TESCOM headquarters in Ilorin.

TESCOM emphasized that all selections were made strictly on merit, needs, and equity, with no political influence. “This is as directed by His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to restore public trust in the system, promote excellence, and ensure equal opportunity for all,” the statement added. It also confirmed that the process was inclusive of qualified indigenes, non-indigenes, and persons with disabilities.
