2025 AfroBasket: D’Tigers battle Cameroon in winner-takes-all clash

By Tosin Omojola –
Nigeria’s D’Tigers will square up against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions on Sunday afternoon in Luanda in what could be described as the biggest contest in Group B.
It has been a remarkable performance so far for both teams, as they go into this match unbeaten after winning their opening two games.
The stakes are high, as victory for either side will secure an automatic quarterfinal ticket, while the loser will have to go through the playoffs for a shot at qualification.
Nigeria opened their campaign with a resounding 77-59 win over Madagascar before subduing defending champions Tunisia 87-66.
With depth across positions, a versatile bench, and the ability to switch gears mid-game, the D’Tigers have shown they are not just here to compete but to reclaim glory.
Victory against Cameroon would send a message to other contenders that Nigeria is a front-runner for the title, which they last won a decade ago.
The Cameroonians, on the other hand, have also been impressive so far, heading into this game with victories over Tunisia and Madagascar.
Sunday’s clash is more than just a game — it is a battle for supremacy, with both teams knowing that finishing top of Group B guarantees direct passage to the quarterfinals rather than going through the rigours of the playoffs.
