As the build-up to the 2026 Osun governorship election gathers momentum, supporters of the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, took their campaigns to the coronation of the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, on Friday.

While Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyebamiji is aiming to emerge as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next governorship election in Osun State.

During the coronation, staunch supporters of both parties thronged the venue, chanting songs and carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Ademola Adeleke lekan si” and “AMBO for Governor,” among others.

WESTERN POST had earlier reported that Prince Adesuyi Haastrup was on Friday crowned the 41st Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

As early as 8:00 a.m., residents of the town trooped out in colourful attire, heading to the venue of the coronation ceremony.

Dignitaries in attendance included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Ademola Adeleke, former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Gboyega Oyetola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; and Chief Deji Adeleke, among others.

School pupils were also seen waving flags, while scores of residents gathered in front of the palace, waiting eagerly for the commencement of the ceremony.

Haastrup, a former deputy governor of the state, was selected as the 41st Owa-Obokun on December 27, 2024, succeeding Oba Gabriel Aromolaran.
