There was great euphoria on Friday in the ancient town of Ilesa, Osun State, as Prince Adesuyi Haastrup was crowned the 41st Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Ademola Adeleke, former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Gboyega Oyetola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; and Chief Deji Adeleke, among others.

President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, called for deeper collaboration between traditional institutions and all levels of government to ensure all-round development in the country.

Tinubu, noting that the throne of Owa-Obokun was not merely a seat of royal power, described it as a sacred custodian of the values, aspirations, and spiritual heritage of the Ijesa people.

He charged the new monarch to continue to be a pillar of unity and a bridge between the past and the promise of tomorrow.

In his remarks, Governor Ademola Adeleke, while congratulating the monarch, described him as a socialite with the public interest at heart, a philanthropist with significant impact on society, and a leader with a truly large heart.

Adeleke also praised the Owa-Obokun for his absolute loyalty and strong support as deputy to his late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, during his tenure as the first executive governor of Osun State.

In his brief remarks, Oba Haastrup appreciated the dignitaries for their presence at the event.
