All is now set for the coronation of the 49th Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, as the ancient town of Ilesa has taken on a festive and vibrant appearance.

A visit by WESTERN POST revealed that posters and billboards featuring the new monarch adorn major parts of the town, including Oja Oba Market, Atakumosa, Osu, and Ibodi.

Construction work is ongoing along the main route leading to the Owa Obokun Palace, with several road and beautification projects nearing completion.

Workers were also seen cleaning and renovating the palace premises in preparation for the historic ceremony.

Residents have expressed excitement and pride ahead of the coronation. “It is a new dawn for us in Ilesa. You can see development everywhere,” said Adeniyi Eunice, a local trader.

Another resident said, “We can’t wait to witness the coronation. The town will be shut down for the event. Schools and businesses will honour the new monarch.”

The coronation will hold on Friday, May 23, followed by a grand reception at Ilesa Grammar School at 1 p.m., with dignitaries expected from across Nigeria.

The week-long celebration will conclude on Sunday, May 25, with a thanksgiving service at the Methodist Church, Otapete, Ilesa.
