Court rejects application to stop coronation of Owa Obokun

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has rejected an application seeking to stop the coronation of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.
Justice Mathias Agboola ruled that the application would not be considered until all parties fulfill the necessary legal requirements and comply with relevant provisions of the law.
The Arimoro family of the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House in Ilesa had approached the court in suit number HL/8/25, seeking an order of interlocutory injunction to halt the coronation pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The applicants joined Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup and nine others as respondents, arguing that the selection process for the monarch did not follow due process.
Counsel to the state government, Muyiwa Ogunleye, informed the court that the parties had not been properly served, adding that it would be unfair to proceed with the application at this stage.
“It’s unfortunate that these pleadings have dragged on for over four months instead of the stipulated 60 days. Both parties have not shown seriousness in prosecuting the case. Until all pending applications are addressed, it would be unwise for the court to grant an interlocutory injunction,” Justice Agboola said.
The judge adjourned the case to July 3, 2025, for hearing.
