LASHMA-AID saves 110 lives in 6 months, treats 132 emergency cases

The Lagos State Health Management Agency Assistance-In-Distress (LASHMA-AID) has treated 132 emergency cases and saved 110 lives within six months of its establishment.
The Permanent Secretary, LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, disclosed this at the agency’s multi-stakeholder engagement held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja.
Zamba explained that 101 of the 132 residents treated were vulnerable persons who could not afford healthcare costs, while 26 were ILERA EKO enrollees and five were non-vulnerable, non-enrollees.
She said the 101 vulnerable residents and their family members had been enrolled in the EKO Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA) Health Insurance Plan for one year through the Equity Fund approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to her, the initiative would provide beneficiaries with access to quality and equitable healthcare services free of charge, with the insurance coverage renewable subsequently.
She identified Ikeja, Badagry, Lagos Island, Ketu, Ogba, Itire-Surulere and Mile 2 as areas with the highest number of emergency pickups in the state.
Zamba added that 59 of the cases were trauma or road traffic accident-related, 36 were medical, 19 surgical, 11 obstetric and seven neonatal.
She said 72 ambulance transports, including pre-hospital and inter-facility referrals, were handled by five ambulance service operators comprising the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and four accredited private providers.
